The Beautiful Wonders Of Coconut Oil

coconut oilDid you know that Coconut Oil can be used as a dietary supplement, as cooking oil AND as a natural skin and hair care product?

Coconut Oil. . .  who knew?

To be very honest, I’ve never been a big fan of eating coconut…however, I am a very big fan of drinking it.  I love Pina Coladas and our Orange Juice/Pineapple/Malibu Rum Frozen Drink (click here for that yummy recipe!).

But recently I’ve been hearing so much about using Coconut Oil as a beauty product.  Because I LOVE trying new and interesting things, I thought I would give Coconut Oil a real try.

Oh my goodness!  I love this stuff! It does everything!

First, lets start with what it does for your face and body:

~  Coconut Oil completely removes make-up with just a swipe of your cloth or cotton ball.  To remove your eye makeup, just put a little Coconut Oil on a cotton ball or wash cloth and gently sweep it over your eyes, paying attention to your under-eye areas as well.  The Coconut Oil breaks down the mascara (even waterproof mascara) and leaves your eyelids, and the delicate area under your eyelids, mascara free and hydrated. Once you’ve wiped your eyes clean, simply wash your face as usual.

~  Coconut Oil hydrates your face, improves dark circles, and helps keep wrinkles at bay.  To use as an awesome moisturizer for your face, start by washing your face as normal and pat dry.

Starting with your eye area, rub a little Coconut Oil around your eyes being careful not to use too much or to get the oil in your eyes (a pea size amount is more than enough for each eye).  Rub the Coconut Oil around your eyes, focusing on areas that have wrinkles.

Then, use about a dime-size amount of Coconut Oil to rub into the rest of your face. (Wait about ten minutes after applying oil to let it absorb into your skin before applying make up).

***TIP: While the Coconut Oil may be a little thick when you first take it out of the jar, holding it in the palm of your hand will quickly soften it up from the warmth of your skin.

~ Coconut Oil moisturizes and nourishes your body without leaving the heaviness of moisturizing lotions.  After a shower, use a small amount of Coconut Oil, slightly melted in your hands, and rub it all over your body, from your neck down to your pretty little toes.  Smooth it on evenly, and gently rub it until it’s melted into your skin.

Give the Coconut Oil about 15 minutes for the oil to completely get absorbed into your skin, being careful not to get dressed until it is all absorbed.

When used as a body moisturizer, Coconut Oil  increases hydration and dramatically reduces water loss in seriously dry skin, leaving your skin feeling nourished and really smooth – Plus, it makes your smell like summer time!

Next, wait until you see and feel what Coconut Oil does for your hair!

~  Coconut Oil is an excellent moisturizer for your hair because it can penetrate hair better than most other oils- and it makes your hair smell soooo good!

You can put it on your hair 2 ways:

1.  Apply a small amount (about a pea size for short hair and a bean size for longer hair) to damp hair and comb through to distribute evenly to all strands. (Be sure to wear an old shirt or towel so you don’t ruin your nice clothes or robes).  Pile your hair up on top of your head  to keep oil off your clothes.

Leave Coconut Oil on your hair for at least an hour or two – or even overnight (be sure to cover your pillow with an old towel). The longer you keep the Coconut Oil on, the more conditioned your hair will be.

Shampoo your hair twice with your favorite gentle shampoo to remove the Coconut Oil completely.

2.  Melt about 2 -3 teaspoons of Coconut Oil (Place Coconut Oil in cup or small bowl and place cup/bowl in container of hot water- it will melt into a liquid real fast). Let it cool down a few moments if it’s too hot to touch.

Massage melted Coconut Oil into hair and onto your scalp.  It can be applied to either damp or dry hair (though it will spread easier onto damp hair).  Comb through to distribute evenly and  cover hair with shower cap for at least an hour or two – or overnight.

Shampoo your hair twice with your favorite gentle shampoo to remove the Coconut Oil completely.

You will absolutely LOVE the results you get!
